The Story
In this digital age, I just love gifting prints. It's tactile, it's personal, it's special. You often choose something based on the human you love and give it to them. It's symbolic of how well you know them. This was the inspiration for Kendaka. Travelling through Egypt, my partner absolutely loved this building... and so I got busy. This is the story I printed on Kendaka for him. Framed, forever. A moment never forgotten.
Michael and Sarah had been thrusted into the chaos of Egypt. Every outing an over stimulation. From people pretending to work at their hotel and offering them marijuana, to crowds overrun with obnoxious tourists. The two were feeling a level of exhaustion on the first leg of their African adventure.
They boarded a boat and set out along the Nile. A calm reprieve from their prior experiences. They noticed the banks of the Nile were dotted with small communities untouched by tourism - a refreshing scene. This part of the Nile, just outside Aswan, a much healthier stretch of the famous river than what was experienced in Cairo. Standing on the upper deck, it felt like they could finally take in where they actually were. Very far from home. Local fisherman rowed in their rickety wooden boats, barely taking notice of them as they drifted by.
The destination very clearly appeared in the distance, noticed easily by its array of vibrant colours. The Nubian Village was a refreshing change of pace from the chaotic streets that had become the norm. After ascending the stairs from the banks of the Nile, Sarah and Michael were welcomed into a home lived in by Nubian locals. They were greeted with hibiscus tea and Nile crocodiles. A cheeky local played a trick on Michael while he was holding a juvenile crocodile, revealing a surprising and refreshing sense of humour from the people.
Wandering the streets was the true treat on this outing. The building’s vibrant hues, a historical tradition in ancient Nubia, would pop at every corner. Interesting designs and words painted on ancient mud huts and buildings sparked a wave of curiosity. The building pictured was Michael’s favourite. He loved the colours and images so vibrantly depicted. Sarah took out her camera, knowing exactly what she was going to do.
