The Story
You would be forgiven for assuming the vibrant colours on this building were what drew me to it. Let's face it, its a freaking cool building! But it was the light trickling down the stairs that got my attention. This is someone's home, so obviously you weren't allowed inside! But the open door and illuminated staircase was like a silent 'welcome in.' Like you're not allowed but you also are. I couldn't help but peak through those doors and wanted to capture the depth in this image that I experienced on this day.

Outside the city of Aswan lies The Nubian Village. The village is a slight reprieve from the usual disarray of other Egyptian cities. It embodies its own sense of chaos, wrapped up in colourful buildings, and is home to welcoming locals. Historically, Nubian people came from Sudan, which borders the southern region of Egypt. The streets are framed by their unique architecture; mud huts decorated in vibrant hues. They are an ancient civilisation with a rich history where woman are the warriors responsible for the survival of many cultural traditions still thriving today. Their language is considered sacred and is not shared with foreigners. A day wandering the village will leave you feeling as though you’ve possibly left planet earth and stepped into another world.
